Hello! I'm Laura, author of the thoughts you'll find here. I married my best friend, Guppy, a year ago, and together we are parents to two wonderfully silly dachshunds, Blue & Maddie. We love God, live life, and make each other laugh deep in the heart of Texas.

My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

A man who loves God, treasures me, and leads well.

Michael, you are one of the greatest blessings in my life. Happy (almost) two year (wedding) anniversary.

We often converse with each other via social media while we’re in the same room. I believe our friend Shannon C. has some recent video evidence…
This is what I mean:

I also found some sweet little love letters archived in my Facebook messages (oh the implications of life-changing media). Will share soon. Stay tuned.

When Guppy and I said we would grow old together, we were picturing ourselves as 70-something-year-olds (God willing) in rocking chairs on our future house’s front porch. Today, as 20-something-year-olds, we can say we are right on track. Perhaps we’re even a little early. How do I know? Hair!
Exhibit A: I now have five, five white hairs. Ah, ah, ah, ah!

I have at least five white hairs. I counted them in the mirror yesterday morning. When we started dating, I only had a couple of silver strands at the back of my head that had been there since I was about 15 (thanks, Mom, for the premature greying! Super stoked!). Now, in addition to those, I have five bright with a capital “B”, white hairs growing out of my forelock. Fortunately, you can’t really tell in pictures yet, so I don’t have an example to show you. However, I’m hoping that eventually I can at least keep it looking classy like Stacy London of TLC’s What Not To Wear.

Exhibit B: Guppy’s receding hairline. Here is a picture of us in 2007, nearly a year after we started dating.

Now, here is a picture of us at the first UT football game of the 2010 season at Reliant Stadium in Houston.

I know. We started noticing a few months ago, but apparently it runs on his mom’s side of the family. And we can be thankful that we only have the hairline to worry about, because Guppy’s dad decided to go bald at a young-ish age. I can’t picture Michael bald, although, for the record, I’d love him anyway. (“I would shave off my hair, and paste it to your head.” - Ashton Kutcher as Michael Kelso in That 70’s Show)
And, for anybody who’s wondering, I did have permission to use this example; Guppy’s a good sport. So there you have it. Telltale signs that we are right on track to grow old together.

Guppy and I have a proud tradition of military service in our family.

This is my dad at my college graduation in May of this year! He was always my hero growing up, still holds that title. :) I loved to brag about his service in the Army when I was a kid, including the fact that he speaks Korean because of it! Daddy, thank you so much for serving America in such a selfless way. I am forever proud of you, big guy! P.S. - My dad has his Movember goin’ on all year long. Aren’t you jealous?

This is Guppy’s dad, Guppy, and younger sister, Ashley (not sure when this was taken). Marty served in the Army for over 10 years. Guppy’s most frequently recounted memory of being an Army brat? Helping his dad with Drill Sergeant duties: destroying soldiers’ freshly made beds!

This is the handsome Grandpa Dean with the lovely Grandma Jean, Guppy’s mom’s parents. You’re looking right into the face of the Greatest Generation. I’m not sure when this was taken, but we’d like to thank Grandpa Dean for his service in the Korean War.

Veterans, I could never do what you do. I don’t know if it seems like a big deal to you, but know that the rest of us think it is a huge deal that you serve your country. Your courage is inspiring.
